Skunk #1 Cannabis Strain

Skunk #1, sometimes called “#1” or simply Skunk, remains one of cannabis’ most storied strains, even though its THC content hovers in the mid-teens—roughly 15 to 19 percent. Born in the Netherlands more than thirty years ago, breeders blended landrace lines from South and Central America, Thailand, and Afghanistan to create a lineage that would become a staple and give rise to countless hybrids.

True to its name, the aroma is distinctly skunky, layered with earthy and pungent undercurrents. On the palate, it pairs grassy and sour flavors with an earthy depth that lingers. The plant is described as indica-dominant, with about two parts indica to one part sativa (roughly 65% indica and 35% sativa).

Its effects unfold in two stages: an uplifting head buzz that can feel energetic and creative, paired with a deeper, relaxing body high. Best used late in the day. Medicinally, users report relief for chronic pain, anxiety and stress, as well as headaches and appetite loss, with possible benefits for depression and fatigue. Common caveats include dry mouth, paranoia, and red eyes. The strain remains a staple on the Amsterdam scene and is widely found across the United States, particularly on the West Coast, in Arizona, and in Colorado.
